Mavro Employee Spotlight: Dale Baker
Keeping Pace with Dale: 5 Million Steps and Counting
In his nine years at Mavro, Dale Baker has been at the heart of the action, helping customers with everything from system configurations to training sessions that turn tech challenges into learning opportunities.
As an Application Engineer at Mavro, Dale’s days are packed with meetings. Whether it’s current customers, new prospects, or Mavro teammates, he’s always on the move—literally. He juggles meetings, solves unsolvable problems, and logs millions of steps, all while keeping a steady 2.7 MPH on his walking desk!
Since 2019, Dale has logged over 5,000,000 steps each year, and he’s on track to break 6,500,000 by year’s end. That’s an average of 129,000 steps each week.
While pacesetting at his desk, Dale spends his time brainstorming ways to improve processes, finding better solutions, and figuring out how to get there. When he’s not in meetings, you’ll find him documenting processes in the company’s internal Wiki or fine-tuning system configurations. Multitasking is simply Dale’s normal pace.
The Thrill of Problem-Solving
What keeps Dale going? It’s all about the thrill of finding solutions to problems people think can’t be solved. There’s nothing quite like the “Aha!” moment, especially when he’s face-to-face with customers. Interacting with customers not only solves immediate issues but often reveals hidden opportunities to streamline systems and manual processes. For Dale, it’s all about helping customers understand the “why” behind the problem and empowering them to handle it even faster next time.
From Lockbox to Rockstar
Dale didn’t just stumble into Mavro – he was already well-acquainted with its leadership before joining the team. Coming on board felt like the obvious choice. After all, Mavro is, as Dale puts it, “the rockstar of the donation and payment processing industry.” With its tech-savvy foundation, Mavro continues to build solutions that sometimes outpace even the customers! And while working remotely used to be unique, Mavro had a head start when the world shifted that way, making the pandemic just a busier-than-usual period.
A Love for Books, Bikes, and Bulldogs
When Dale’s not walking through meetings or solving customer challenges, you can find him sorting books at the Brown County Public Library’s massive biannual book sale. His weekend hobby of sorting donations might seem quiet compared to his professional life, but there’s a special joy in seeing the stories people pass along for others to enjoy.
Dale’s also a family man with a daughter starting university, a fourth-grade son who’s an active member of the National Railroad Museum, and a French bulldog who loves to socialize. Evenings in the Baker household usually feature the soothing sound of his wife’s knitting needles as they enjoy foreign game shows like Taskmaster and Hard Quiz.
Between walking, hiking with his son, and biking through fall trails, Dale’s always on the move. And when he’s not walking, he’s riding his antique Oliver Row Crop 77 tractor across the Mackinac Bridge, a family tradition with his wife’s father and brothers.
Multi-Talented Dual Citizen
Dale’s background is as diverse as his job. He’s a dual citizen of the U.S. and Australia, with family ties across both countries. With degrees in Electronic Media and Mass Communication, he even taught an Introduction to the Internet class at UW-Milwaukee. His time as a Business Systems Analyst for a mid-cap bank gave him firsthand knowledge of the challenges Mavro customers face. This perspective helps him deliver even better solutions today.
Dale Baker isn’t just another employee. He’s a multitasking, problem-solving, step-counting dynamo who brings curiosity, insight, and a genuine passion for making systems better – whether that’s at Mavro or in the aisles of a library.
